Private voice dictation for Mac: speak, and it types

Hablaki turns your voice into text in any app on your Mac. Press a key, say what you think, and the words appear where your cursor is. Everything runs on your computer: no accounts, no cloud, and your voice never leaves your Mac.

How it works

1. Press your key. Press once to start and again to stop, or hold another key while you talk. You choose the keys.
2. Speak naturally. A small animation at the bottom of the screen shows you are being heard.
3. The text appears. When you finish, Hablaki transcribes and pastes the text where your cursor was, in any app.

Why local dictation

• Private: speech recognition runs on your Mac using Whisper, an open model. No audio is sent to any server.
• No account: nothing to sign up for.
• Works offline: after downloading the model once, it works without an internet connection.
• Fast: in our tests on a Mac with an M4 Pro chip, four seconds of speech were transcribed in half a second.
• Your languages: Spanish by default, plus English, French, Portuguese, German and Italian.
• Your vocabulary: add names and terms you use often so they are spelled right.

Requirements

A Mac with an Apple chip (M1 or later) or an Intel chip. The first launch downloads the voice model: about 1.6 GB on Apple chips, or 480 MB (145 MB on modest machines) on Intel. Intel Macs transcribe a bit slower with a lighter model.
