How to convert a video to text
- Choose the video. Drag it into the box. It can be a Zoom, Meet or Teams recording, a class, a phone video or a piece you've edited.
- Set the language and the mode. For meetings with several people, turn on “Identify speakers”.
- Press “Transcribe”. Only the audio is extracted from the video and turned into text. Then you can download it as TXT, Word, PDF or subtitles.
Long, large videos
Videos take up much more space than audio, but the whole video isn't uploaded here: the browser reads the file bit by bit and uses only the sound track. You can transcribe videos up to 2 GB and 1 hour long. For longer videos, use the Hablaki app.
What about YouTube, Instagram or TikTok videos?
The tool works with files you have on your device; it doesn't read links. If the video is yours, download it from your account on the platform and upload it here. Only transcribe content that belongs to you or that you have permission to use.
From video to subtitles
When it's done, download the SRT or VTT file with synced sentences and upload it to YouTube or import it into your editing software. Before that, fix any word directly in the text: the subtitles are generated with your changes. We explain it step by step in how to generate subtitles.
What if, instead of recording and transcribing, you dictated directly?
With Hablaki, you press a key, speak, and the text appears wherever your cursor is: in your email, in Word, in WhatsApp Web or in any app. Your voice never leaves your device. Try it free for 14 days, no card required.

Is the whole video uploaded?
No. The browser extracts only the sound. In the cloud, that audio is sent encrypted and deleted when it's done; in “On your device” mode, nothing leaves your computer.
What video formats does it accept?
MP4, MOV, WEBM, MPEG, WMV, AVI, MKV and 3GP, among others. If the video has sound, it can be transcribed.
How large can the video be?
Up to 2 GB per file. The maximum length is 1 hour per file.
Can I transcribe a YouTube video by pasting the link?
No: you need the video file on your device. If the video is yours, you can download it from your YouTube account.
Can I get subtitles for my video?
Yes. Download the result as SRT or VTT, with the sentences and their timings, ready for YouTube, Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve.
